Pakistan on alert as heavy rains expected in next 48 hours

According to the climate minister, landslide-prone cities and municipal areas have been issued with urban flooding alerts.

Specialists and public, including non-government associations (NGOs), were placed on alarm as weighty downpours alongside thundershowers are anticipated the nation over the course of the following 24-48 hours, Environmental Change Priest Sherry Rehman said on Wednesday.

"Estimate of downpour influences in the 24-48 hours in Pakistan. The Punjabi cities of Lahore, Narowal, and Sialkot will receive the greatest amount of precipitation. Different regions have been alarmed too for weighty to direct rain," the pastor composed on her authority Twitter handle.

She said metropolitan flooding alarms had been given for urban communities and civil regions with dangers of avalanches. " All response teams, both public and NGOs, in the affected areas must remain vigilant and prepared, as coordinated preparedness and proactive responses save lives,” she added.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) says that northern and eastern Punjab, including Lahore, Sialkot, and Narowal, may see severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej, and its associated nullahs—Bhimber, Aik, Deg, Palkhu, and Basanter—may also see high or very high river flows.

"Above condition might cause metropolitan flooding in civil regions and landsliding in uneven areas," said NDMA.

In the mean time, Karachi, Tharparkar, Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Badin, and Shaheed Benazirabad are probably going to encounter tempests and weighty precipitation.

"Thunderstorms and rainfall are anticipated in Northeastern Balochistan (Sibbi, Zhob, Kohlu, Qila Saifullah, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Loralai, Dera Bugti, and Lasbela) and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Bannu, DI Khan, Malam Jabba, and Balakot," it added. What are the rules?

NDMA has encouraged the city and locale organization to guarantee possibility traffic plans for regions powerless against flooding in metropolitan habitats, providing food for brief de-watering activities in overwhelmed underpasses.

The district administration is urged to complete the inventory, reconnaissance, and public education in vulnerable areas, particularly the Marala Headworks on the Chenab and Jassar on the Ravi, where there are potential flood flows until July 20.

The authority stated, "Rescue Services and leading NGOs will ensure the availability of personnel in the indicated areas," adding that all stakeholders should maintain proactive coordination to ensure a swift and efficient response.
